Damage assessed after hurricane smashes through Florida.

Rescue and recovery efforts have begun in Florida after Hurricane Milton made landfall, ripping the roof off a stadium and leaving millions without power.

Ahead of the storm on Wednesday, tornadoes touched down, levelling houses and killing at least five people.

As the evening wore on, emergency services carried out dozens of rescues in flooded communities.

Tesla boss Elon Musk is to unveil a prototype of the firm's long-awaited robotaxi, the Cybercab, at the Warner Bros Studios in Burbank, California on Thursday.

K-pop star to testify on music industry bullying

South Korean pop star Hanni has made a surprise announcement, saying she will testify to the country's National Assembly in a hearing about bullying in the music industry.

The singer, who is part of the girl group NewJeans, said she had made the decision without telling her managers or her record label, Ador.

"I believe going forward is the right thing to do, no matter how much I think about it," she wrote to fans on social media.

It comes after she and the other four members of her band raised concerns about their treatment by Ador during an impromptu YouTube livestream on 11 September.

Why did Hurricane Milton cause tornadoes in Florida?.

Tornadoes are perhaps not the first weather element we think about when forecasting hurricanes.

A huge area of cloud like a hurricane tends to make us think of copious amounts of rain, destructive winds and deadly storm surges.

But tornadoes can accompany any tropical weather, according to the National Weather Service (NWS).

And it is not unusual to receive reports of tornadoes in the outer rain bands of a hurricane, because there is enough energy for them to form.

The rain bands away from the eye of the storm are important areas because they host the best, most suitable wind shear and instability.

The NWS notes most of these twisters are "relatively weak and short-lived, but they still pose a significant threat".
